Something for everyone

Orkney offers a wealth of attractions and something of interest for everyone, whether it is sports and activities, nature, history or archaeology.

A number of attractions and places of interest are in walking distance of the hotel, these include the stunning St Magnus Cathedral – a must for anyone visiting Kirkwall, the Earl’s and Bishop’s Palaces, The Orkney Museum and The Highland Park Distillery and Visitor Centre.

There are also regular buses in the summer taking you to some of the most remarkable archaeological sites, namely Skara Brae and The Ring of Brodgar (located in the World Heritage Site – The Heart of Neolithic Orkney).

Alternatively you can explore the Islands at your leisure by hiring a car – with sites well marked and easy to find.

Being in a town centre location also means all the town’s shops are easily accessible, so why not pick up a little souvenir of your time in Orkney by paying a visit to the many shops selling local produce.

The Kirkwall Hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the beauty and culture of the Orkney Islands. An ideal location from which to explore both the Mainland and the many outer isles – we are conveniently located opposite the harbour where ferries depart regularly to Shapinsay, Sanday, Westray and Rousay to name just a few.
