SUMMER EVENTS ON ORKNEY

What's on in 2025

Get ready for an extraordinary summer of unmissable events on Orkney!

This summer and into the early autumn, our islands are buzzing with iconic events offering unique experiences that promise to make your visit here truly unforgettable.

The Island Games 2025

Orkney is making history this summer as we proudly host the 20th International Island Games, 12–18 July, 2025. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will officially open the Games at Bignold Park, Kirkwall, on the 12 July.

2,000 athletes from 24 island groups will compete in 12 thrilling sports. It's a vibrant celebration of sport and community and a truly unmissable event!

Kirkwall Hotel Highland Park Bar

The whisky den in the Kirkwall Hotel is home to over 100 Highland Park whiskies, all of which are distilled on the doorstop. The atmospheric bar offers a selection of whisky flights, or if you’re into gin, they serve up fantastic gin flights too.

Skara Brae After Hours

Experience the ancient Neolithic village of Skara Brae like never before. From 9 June to 28 August, 2025, you can book exclusive evening tours.

Avoid the daytime crowds and explore this incredible site when it's closed to the general public. It's a special opportunity to connect with history in a truly unique and memorable way, but booking in advance is essential to secure your spot!

Orkney Food & Drink Festival

Calling all foodies! Mark your diary for the Orkney Food & Drink Festival, 20-21 September 2025, at Kirkwall Grammar School.

This star-studded event will be headlined by celebrity chef James Martin, alongside MasterChef 2024 winner Brin Pirathapan and Great British Bake Off 2023 winner Matty Edgell. Enjoy celebrity cooking demonstrations, Q&A sessions, tastings, and a host of local producers showcasing our island larder.

Kirkwall Hotel Harbourside Restaurant

The Kirkwall Hotel’s stylish Harbour View restaurant offers residents and non-residents hearty dishes that showcase Orcadian produce. The menu changes with the seasons and  has daily specials.
