Get ready for an extraordinary summer of unmissable events on Orkney!
This summer and into the early autumn, our islands are buzzing with iconic events offering unique experiences that promise to make your visit here truly unforgettable.
The Island Games 2025
History will be made this summer as Orkney hosts the 20th International Island Games from 12–18 July 2025. The Games will be officially opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal at Bignold Park, Kirkwall, on 12 July.
With over 2,000 athletes from 24 island nations competing across 12 sports, it’s a week-long celebration of community, competition, and culture – and it’s right on our doorstep. We're proud to be an official accommodation provider for the Island Games.
Skara Brae After Hours
From 9 June to 28 August 2025, take a rare opportunity to explore Orkney’s famous Neolithic village after closing time. These exclusive after-hours evening tours offer a peaceful, crowd-free way to experience this extraordinary site.
It’s a memorable way to step back in time – but advance booking is essential.
Orkney Food & Drink Festival
Calling all food lovers! The Orkney Food & Drink Festival returns on 20–21 September 2025 at Kirkwall Grammar School, and this year’s line-up is packed with culinary stars.
Headline appearances include James Martin, MasterChef 2024 winner Brin Pirathapan, and Great British Bake Off 2023 champion Matty Edgell. Enjoy demos, tastings, Q&As, and a showcase of local producers celebrating the flavours of the islands.
Where to Eat & Drink During Your Stay
Between events, why not relax at the Kirkwall Hotel’s Highland Park Bar? Stocked with over 100 Highland Park whiskies – all distilled locally – it’s a great place to unwind. Whisky flights are available, and for gin fans, there’s a curated gin flight too.
Or enjoy a seasonal meal at our Harbourside Restaurant, where the menu changes with the produce and daily specials highlight the best of Orcadian ingredients.
